I would like to join the Newark City Schools school board because I believe the students and community deserve a school board who cares and is willing to put the work into being an active school board member.
School board members are not supposed to rubber stamp what the superintendent wants for the district. School board members are to be active in the schools and set parameters for administrative evaluations and set goals for the school district.
It is the board’s job to work for the community and take their input on what they would like to see in their schools. Newark City Schools claims to be a community with opportunities for our students to learn, but when was the last time any board members had an open forum with community members? Board members need to take the time to talk to the community and teachers so they would have a true understanding on what goes on at Newark City Schools. This way the board can make better decisions on how to educate the children of Newark City Schools.
The goal is to make students as successful as they want to be. Newark City Schools goal should be to create global citizens who contribute to the community. The school board should help students prepare for the future by guiding them to college, technical school, trade school, or training them to enter into the work force. This way the students can do their best and make it better.
My goal as a board member is to spend time talking to as many people as I can so I can be an informed board member who can make plans for the students who make up this great community. My goal is to prepare the students for the future to make Newark a better and greater community.
To be the best board members, it is important to have the teachers and students working together to create a community of learning where everyone can be successful and where the students and teachers come first.
A School Board Member should...
- Be an active presence in the schools
- Set short & long term goals to improve our district
- Ensure all administrators are effective at their positions
- Listen to the concerns of parents and students
- Understand teachers needs in the classroom
- Help students prepare for the future
Why I am running
